In **Before Versailles**, we meet Louis XIV, a ruler thrust into power at the tender age of twenty-two, fresh off the passing of his mentor, Cardinal Mazarin. This is not a story of a seasoned monarch; it's a portrait of a man navigating the treacherous waters of power, fueled by ambition and desire.

The story unfolds amidst the grandeur of Fontainebleau, where Louis, consumed by his affections for the beautiful Princess Henriette, his brother's wife, ignites a passionate affair that threatens to shake the foundations of his kingdom. The whispers of scandal reach the Vatican, casting a dark shadow over his reign. As the king grapples with his desires, a tapestry of intrigue and danger unfolds around him.

Beyond the opulent court, rumors of a mysterious figure, a prisoner cloaked in an iron mask, echo through the woods. Meanwhile, Nicolas Fouquet, the king's finance minister, emerges as a powerful force, capable of both unwavering loyalty and treacherous betrayal. Louis must decipher his true intentions and navigate the perilous game of power.
